In front of a terrific crowd at Highlander Stadium, the Highlanders racked up nearly 400 rushing yards in a strong 35-19 win over Cardinal Newman on Friday night.
Juniors Alex Lewis and Ronnie Porter combined for 46 carries, and helped push Heathwood to their highest scoring output of the season, with 5 touchdowns between the two. Senior Grayson Tanner went 5-5 on PAT attempts, and led an offensive line of Gavin Goodwin, Khadir Irving, Tripp Campbell, and Lance Wilson that dominated in the trenches.
The Cardinals (2-1) responded to an early 14-0 Heathwood lead with a kickoff return touchdown, and a 2nd quarter TD pass, but were limited to one score for the rest of the evening, that included three Highlander forced turnovers.
Heathwood (2-1) will travel next week to Laurence Manning in their first road game, for a 7:30 kickoff.
