On a chilly October night, the Highlander Varsity Football team fell behind early to the visiting First Baptist Hurricanes and couldn’t complete the comeback, falling on Senior Night 39-26.
The Hurricanes opened the night with a drive working the length of the field, punctuated by a 5-yard TD run. Two drives later, Heathwood would tie the game as Alex Lewis raced 67 yards for the tying score. First Baptist, however, would find their footing, scoring 19 unanswered points for a 26-7 lead at the break.
The second half saw the Highlanders find a rhythm of their own as Ronnie Porter opened the half with a TD run, and then responded to a Hurricane score with another TD run to keep the game within two scores. The teams would trade scores late in the 4th, as Lewis scored his second on the ground for the final points of the night.
Heathwood (6-3, 6-2) will have their final non-SCISA game of the year next Friday, as they host Camden Military in the Sonic Drive-In Friday Night Lights Game of the Week on WACH Fox, with kickoff scheduled for 7:36 at Highlander Stadium.
