The Boys & Girls Varsity Basketball team hosted the annual Home Pest Control Holiday Classic for a weekend, hosting CA Johnson, First Baptist, and Laurence Manning.

The Girls opened the tournament with the weekend’s most exciting game, battling the LMA Swampcats for the full 32 minutes, before separating themselves with a Shaniya Parkerbuzzer-beating shot for a 1-point win and berth in the championship game.  The Varsity Boys, behind 21 points from Isaiah Caldwell and 19 points from eventual tournament MVP Matthew Lee, picked up a 10-point win over LMA.

With both teams participating in the finals, the Lady Highlanders battled First Baptist before falling 63-47.  Despite the loss, Morgan Goodwin and Allie Carter earned nods to the All-Tournament Team.  The Boys withstood a late Hurricane run, to hold on for a 61-59 Championship win.  Caldwell and Cam Carraway led the Highlanders with 20 points each, while Justice Hill poured in 17.

To follow up their tournament win, the Boys participated in the WingBonz York HS Holiday tournament, claiming a 2-1 record with wins over St. James & Brookland-Cayce.  Carraway earned his second All-Tournament team selection of the break.

The Highlander Wrestling team has had a busy break, participating in the Demon Holiday Classic, hosted by Lugoff-Elgin, as well as participating in a tri-match with Hammond and Orangeburg Prep.  Though the Highlanders fell by just six points to the Skyhawks, junior Reagan Olsen claimed a win and became the school’s all-time wins leader in Heathwood history.

Following that competition, Olsen and freshman AJ Kuse additionally had the opportunity to participate in The Prep Slam X in Atlanta, featuring the top independent school wrestlers along the east coast.

The team will return to action this weekend as they travel to Travelers Rest for The Devildog tournament.
